FactCheckEd.org
is an educational resource for high school teachers
and
students. It’s  designed to help students learn to cut through the fog of misinformation and deception that surrounds the many messages they’re bombarded with every day. This site is a sister to the award-winning Annenberg Political Fact Check, which goes by the Internet address FactCheck.org. and monitors the factual accuracy of what is said in the nation’s political arena.

Both websites are projects of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania, with funding for FactCheckEd.org provided by a grant from the Flora Family Foundation.

Ask.com upgrades its search site for children

The company’s kids site — askkids.com — grew out of an older iteration called “Ask Jeeves for Kids” which reflected the company’s former name. The new site features bright graphics and is meant to list results in a way easier for children to understand and navigate.

Ask has made the site easier to use by mouse and cursor, since children tend to be better at that than typing. The site allows searches for movies rated PG-13 or below and for safe selections of videos from channels like Animal Planet, BBC, PBS and Discovery. It also has reference links to dictionaries with pronunciation help and information on word origins.  An icon of a pair of binoculars beside each search result allows a quick peek at what a site looks like without actually going there.
