The 7,200-yard Hayward course, designed by David McLay Kidd, will host the Nationwide Tour's Stonebrae Classic from March 30 to April 5 next year, taking over the spring dates held by the 3-year-old Livermore Valley Wine Country Championship at The Course at Wente Vineyards.

The Stonebrae Classic joins The Presidents Cup, scheduled for Oct. 5-11, 2009, at Harding Park in San Francisco, and the Champions Tour's Charles Schwab Cup Championship at Sonoma Golf Club Oct. 30 to Nov. 2 as the major PGA Tour events in the area. The Schwab Cup will be played at Harding in 2010 and 2011.

There are now 29 TPC courses, 15 of which host either PGA, Nationwide or Champions tour events.

"We are excited to plant the PGA Tour flag at this prestigious David McLay Kidd design, which will become the new flagship private club on the West Coast for the TPC Network," said David Pillsbury, president of PGA Tour Golf Course Properties, in a statement.

Wente Vineyards, which hosted the Wine Country Championship since 2006, was rated the Nationwide Tour's toughest course the last two years. The cumulative stroke average for last year's tournament was 75.235, making it the ninth-most difficult course in the tour's 18-year history.

Tour officials estimated that the event drew an average of 15,000 fans each year. All four rounds of the Stonebrae Classic will be televised on the Golf Channel. This year's Wine Country Championship was not televised.
